From the AlzAuthors Blog: Visit our National Caregiver Appreciation Month Book Sale & Giveaway Now Through November 13th!

AlzAuthors is built by caregivers for caregivers, with a mission to provide carefully vetted books and blogs to help you find the answers and guidance you need. The majority of our authors have "walked the walk" with a parent, spouse, or other loved one, and have chosen to write their stories as balm for the soul and to share with others the information they wished they'd had on their dementia journeys.

November is National Caregiver Appreciation Month. What a wonderful time to recognize the long hours, sacrifice, and love all caregivers bring to the task of caring for a loved one with dementia or any long-term illness. In honor of their efforts, AlzAuthors is hosting a book sale and giveaway. This is a terrific way for caregivers who are looking for knowledge, guidance, and support to build a library of carefully vetted books to help guide and inspire them every day.

Starting today through November 13th, you can take advantage of this excellent opportunity to check out some of our books at reduced prices. We offer books in a variety of genres, including fiction, memoir, non-fiction, and children’s literature. All are available in Kindle, and many are available in other digital formats, paperback, and audio.

Our books are written from a deep place of understanding, experience, knowledge, and love. May you find one – or two, or more! – to help guide you on your own dementia journey.

Click on the book covers to visit each book’s Amazon.com page. Please check all prices before purchasing. AlzAuthors is not responsible for ensuring price reductions. AlzAuthors Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month eBook Sale!

AlzAuthors was founded in 2016 by myself and three other daughters of dementia who met over the internet because of our books. We formed a friendship and a mission to create a space where caregivers can find solid support, and those who share their stories can find the proper audience. I'm proud of our work and how we've grown from a 30-day awareness mission in June of 2016, to a weekly blog showcasing books and blogs about Alz and related dementias, a bookstore, Facebook group, and active Twitter presence.
You may have heard that June is Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month, and today, June 21st, is The Longest Day. Sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association, these important events increase awareness of Alzheimer's, related dementias, and brain health. In recognition of these events, AlzAuthors has put together our very first eBook sale!
Starting June 21 through June 28, you can take advantage of this excellent opportunity to check out some of our books at reduced prices, ranging from 2.99 to free. We offer a variety of genres, from fiction, memoir, and non-fiction. Many of our books are also available in paperback and audio, so check them out too.
Our books are written from a deep place of understanding, experience, knowledge, and love. May you find one - or two, or three! - to help guide you on your own dementia journey.

Cozy Up to Reading! Clean Indie Reads Mid-Winter Sale

Here's the sale!
Looks like our extended autumn is over as winter roared into the Hudson Valley this past weekend, dropping loads of snow and wreaking its normal havoc. We were lucky - less than three inches covered our lawn, but others in my area had more than a foot, and New York City almost broke a record at 26.8 inches. Travel on city streets was banned on Saturday into Sunday and people were urged to stay in. I have no problem with that: a snow day is a perfect day to stay in and read.

To prepare for the next storm take a look at the titles in Clean Indie Reads Cozy Up to Reading mid-winter book sale. CIR is the home of "flinch-free fiction," which means free of offensive language, graphic violence or gore, and erotica or sexually explicit scenes. It is the best ever data base for clean books written by independent authors.

You'll find a variety of genres including children's, YA, historical, humor, inspirational, mystery, suspense, legal thrillers, paranormal, fantasy, science fiction and romance. Some are free, others are discounted. Sale ends January 30th.

This is a great way to use up that Amazon gift card or fill your new Kindle. Happy reading!

New Release Spotlight: Judy Nickles' "Lethal Legacy in Dreamland," The Dreamland Series

Book 1 of The Dreamland Series: Lethal Legacy in Dreamland

What’s the ghost of Al Capone doing in Dreamland, Arkansas? Trixie’s willing to live and let live, but he doesn’t seem to be so tolerant!

Trixie Blake barely remembers her small hometown or the grandfather who left her  the Quimby Building on the antiquated town square. Newly-widowed and at loose ends, she treks to Dreamland to look for a fresh start. It takes less than twenty-four hours to discover she’s in the path of a shadowy development company’s plans to take over all of Dreamland’s historic downtown. That is, if they can persuade the three hold-outs to sell and move on. When Trixie decides to become hold-out number four, her already precarious situation deteriorates rapidly.

She finds an odd assortment of allies: the Drummond sisters, two feisty senior citizens  who run the Sunshine Style Shoppe on the first floor of Trixie’s building;  Rudy James, a former high school classmate (now the proprietor of the Twilight Bar and Grill); Glen Ellard, the long-time mayor who owns the town’s only hardware store; Hetty Green, a retired teacher who keeps her fingers on the pulse of the town; Danny Jefferson, who doesn’t let his Down Syndrome define him; Mitch Langley, whose connection  to the development company is too close for comfort; and Candace King, self-appointed head of the Dreamland Historic Association, who knows the town’s dark secrets.

On top of everything else, Trixie’s great-grandfather’s buddy Al Capone seems to be still in residence on the Quimby Building’s second floor. Does he also get out and about to vandalize Trixie’s hotel room, slash her tires, and make threatening phone calls? And why does Police Chief Doug Everton want Trixie out of town sooner than later?

Has Al met his match in Trixie Blake, or is he just a bystander in a seedier plot?

New Release Spotlight:Three Western Novellas from Faith Blum's Hymns ofthe West Series

What could be better on a chilly evening than sitting in front of a fire with a good book in your hands? Yes, I know it’s still August and in most places in the US probably pretty warm, but sending the kids back to school means fall is coming. And with fall comes falling temperatures. So why not plan ahead for those chilly evenings? Today's guest is a young writer from a Midwestern farm who gives us stories from the Old West. Faith Blum is a fellow Clean Indie Reads author who has managed to write and publish several books in her Hymns of the West series in her short life. When I was her age self-publishing was not a respectable option and writers depended on the traditional publishing system to get their work out. Today, access to the tools of publishing and to readers allows authors of any age to publish and market their work. Faith's latest offerings are three wholesome, clean, entertaining, romantic, and historical novellas, the perfect length for a short read. Be sure to read to the end of this post to enter a fun giveaway and find out about her free book offer!

Mom and Dad dead STOP Please come STOP Gage

When his sister dies, leaving him with four children ages 8 and under, Cole Baxter gets desperate. He decides he needs a wife. He writes to a mail order bride before realizing he almost threw away the best woman he could have.  (Approximately 18,000 words)
Free through August 28.

Let me at Thy throne of mercy/Find a sweet relief/Kneeling there in deep contrition/Help my unbelief

Timothy is at his wit's end. His twelve year old half-sister has run off five housekeepers in almost a year. Since their parents died, she has grown wilder than ever. What can he do? As he looks for a new housekeeper, his eye catches sight of a mail order bride advertisement. One young lady has a younger sister and sounds like a God-fearing woman. Could this be the answer to his dilemma or will Louise run her off, too?  (Approximately 18,000 words)

Mail Order bride seeks wealthy Western man. Write Mona Sommers, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Alexander Granger is tired of his father’s lectures and sermons. It’s time for payback. His plan is to pretend to marry a woman and scandalize his father when he finds out they aren’t really married. Will Mona accept his offer? Can Alex get away with his plan? (Approximately 14,000 words.)

Interview

How much do you read? Which genres?
I usually read 100-150 books every year. Per week or month depends on what is happening. I’ve slowed down on my reading lately, but I’m also doing a lot of writing and editing. Books about writing, historical fiction, westerns, some contemporary fiction, and a little fantasy and science fiction are the genres I typically read.

How have the changes in present day publishing impacted your writing career?
Self-publishing is possible and fairly simple. If it were not, I probably wouldn’t be published. As much as I like writing, I don’t think I could handle being traditionally published.

What would you do if you couldn’t write anymore?
I hope that never happens. Probably try to play piano for people somewhere, somehow.
